Alias Mohamad Source :Travel Times, New Straits Times,12 January 2010 The name
Mat Kilau ranks high on the list of Malay warriors. Warisan Pahlawan Resort
pays tribute to Mat Kilau by preserving his original house, writes ALIAS MOHAMAD SOME, if not most of us, must
have heard about the great national hero, Mat Kilau. Although born in Pahang, his war against the enemies often
took him to places in Terengganu and Kelantan like Kuala Berang in Hulu
Terengganu and Pasir Raja in Dungun. However, Kuala Berang is said to be one of
the warrior´s favourite spots. Hence, it´s known as the place where memories of
the great warrior are still alive! Warisan Pahlawan Resort in Kampung Pauh, located enroute to
Jenagor Dam, has recreated such a place for the great warrior. There´s a house
here that´s said to be used by Mat Kilau whenever he was in Kuala Berang. Its
owners bought the house, formerly located in Kampung Pasir Nering, some 4km
from the resort, and shifted it to Kampung Pauh about four years ago. "Rumah Mat Kilau is very popular with the guests, who
probably want to feel and find out for themselves what it´s like to stay in a
warrior´s home," says Pahlawan Warisan Resort manager Tun Mohd Anuar Tuan
Ahmad. Although it is over 150 years old, the house is still in its
original state and strong. Rumah Mat Kilau is not the only original, traditional house
in the resort. All its six houses had been bought here from other parts of Hulu
Terengganu and Dungun. To ensure originality, craftsmen and carpenters with
traditional expertise were carefully chosen and engaged. Most of them were from
Hulu Terengganu. Warisan
